what is LINUX? & what is KERNEL?

what is LINUX?           Linux is an operating system and it is the base software that makes a computer to interact with the user. Linux is the KERNEL which means, the core component of the operating system and it is a free operating system.  what is KERNEL?        If you think an operating system as a nut, the shell is a part  that we use. The kernel that is the central part of the operating system is the core that talks to the computer's hardware.

UNIX and LINUX

Linux is an open source, free to use operating system widely used for computer hardware and software, game development, tablet PCS, mainframes etc. Unix is an operating system commonly used in INTERNET SERVERS & WORKSTATIONS and PCs by Solaris, Intel, HP etc. UNIX and Linux Hardware Commercial UNIX hardware has more advanced initial boot options such as: Decide how to boot Check system health Set hardware parameters etc Linux Linux is just a kernel. All Linux distributions includes GUI system + GNU utilities (such as cp, mv, ls,date, bash etc) + installation & management tools + GNU c/c++ Compilers + Editors (vi) + and various applications (such as OpenOffice, Firefox). However, most UNIX operating systems are considered as a complete operating system as everything come from a single source or vendor. License and cost Linux is Free (as in beer [freedom]). You can download it from the Internet or redistribute it under GNU licenses. You will s

FEATURES OF LINUX

RELIABILITY     LINUX IS A HIGHLY RELIABLE SYSTEM. LINUX SERVERS ARE NOT SHUT DOWN FOR YEARS TOGETHER.NORMALLY OPERATING FAILURES ARE UNKNOWN TO LINUX SYSTEM. BACKWARD COMPATIBILITY LINUX HAS EXCELLENT SUPPORT FOR OLDER HARDWARE.IT CAN RUN ON DIFFERENT TYPES OF PROCESSOR. NO VIRUS ATTACK VIRUS IS THE MOST DREADED WORD IN COMPUTER INDUSTRY.LINUX IS SAID TO BE FREE OF VIRUS ATTACK.IT IS RUMOURED ONLY NOW VIRUS ATTACK LINUX SYSTEM ALSO. SIMPLE UPGRADE & INSTALLATION INSTALLATION PROCEDURE OF MOST LINUX VERSION IS MENU DRIVEN AND EASY  GUI INTERFACE GRAPHICAL INTERFACE FOR LINUX IS KDE,GNOME . KDE,GNOME PROVIDES NEARLY ALL COMFORT OF WINDOWS 98 SYSTEM. SECURITY FEATURES LINUX PROVIDE EXCELLENT  SECURITY FEATURES THIS IS WHY MOST PEOPLE SWITCH OVER TO LINUX. CAN SUPPORT A HIGH USER LOAD LINUX CAN SUPPORT LARGE NUMBER OF USERS WORKING SIMULTANEOUSLY  DEVELOPMENT LIBRARIES LINUX OFFER PLATFORM FOR DEVELOPMENT LANGUAGES LIKE C++ & PERL. MULTIPLE DISTR

More about LINUX

More about LINUX In the 20 years since Linux 1.0 first appeared, the open source operating system has become one of the major winners in the enterprise data center, alongside Microsoft Windows. In 2007, Linus Torvalds and the other Linux kernel committers were adding patches to the kernel at the rate of 86 per hour, or 1.43 per minute. InformationWeek reported in 2007 that Linux, then 16 years old, was the largest sustained software project in the world. Dan Frye, an IBM VP who tracked it, then said: "No other open source project has gotten this large or moved this fast. It's a first-of-a-kind developer community." I n 1991, computer science grad student Linus Torvalds closed himself in his bedroom to create Linux. He emerged many weeks later with 10,250 lines of code for a working kernel. Although much more work needed to be done, Linux was off and running. A 1.0 production version of the kernel came out in 1994. As of December 2014, 20 years later, the Linu

10 reasons "Why Linux is the best operating system?"

10 reasons "Why Linux is the best operating system?" 1)Linux is almost always a free operating system with multiple sources distribution. 2)Linux is open source platforms with plenty of developers working on applications, functions, features and add-ons that are guaranteed to improve your user experience.  3)Low resource requirements. With Linux’s low-resource approach, you are less likely to encounter slower load times. 4)The best feature of Linux operating systems is its low susceptibility to virus and malware infestation.  5)If you do not want to ditch your Windows applications but would want to give Linux a try, there are many compatibility programs that allow Linux to run Windows programs like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. You can run programs like Wine to load Microsoft Office programs and still enjoy the many benefits of Linux as the underlying operating system. 6)Linux offers a choice of benefits from affordability and flexibility to excellent packages inc

Windows vs Linux

Windows vs Linux Introduction:-People  often think of the continuous struggle between Windows and OSX. Which is the world’s most popular system? We put Windows and Linux head-to-head to see whether your business should make the switch to the open source operating system. Windows vs Linux: User-friendliness When it comes to user-friendliness and how accessible an OS is to first-time users, Windows is a clear cut above the competition. The fact that Microsoft has been producing its system software for nearly 30 years means that many aspects of it have become cultural touchstones. However, Linux is an operating system that gets simpler to use the more you understand about it, while Windows can sometimes be the opposite. Digging down past the basic tasks into more complicated functions can leave some people baffled. Microsoft, to its credit, has spent the past few years simplifying the more confusing and labyrinthine elements of its software, and generally making it much more

Linux operating system

Linux operating system  Linux is one of popular version of UNIX operating System. It is open source as its source code is freely available. It is free to use. Linux was designed considering UNIX compatibility. Its functionality list is quite similar to that of UNIX. Components of Linux System Linux Operating System has primarily three components kernel Kernel − Kernel is the core part of Linux. It is responsible for all major activities of this operating system. It consists of various modules and it interacts directly with the underlying hardware. Kernel provides the required abstraction to hide low level hardware details to system or application programs. system library System Library − System libraries are special functions or programs using which application programs or system utilities accesses Kernel's features. These libraries implement most of the functionalities of the operating system and do not requires kernel module's code access rights

About LINUX

More than 20 years ago,Linus Torvalds sparked an open source revolution with a short email declaring he was doing a new project "Just for Fun."Today Linux powers 98% of the world's super computers, most of the servers powering the internet, the majority of financial trades worldwide and tens of millions of Android mobile phones and consumer devices. In short Linux is everywhere. I am also using LINUX.
